Jan re-established her great love of silk screen printing and textile design when she set up Jan Jay Design in 2013.
Graduating from Loughborough University with a BA Hons in Printed Textiles, Jan came away with awards from the Bradford Textile Society for her fabric design and was a finalist in the Royal Society Arts textile awards for her Interiors portfolio. She also produced prints for H&M and Arcadia on placement and spent a year in industry working with fashion brand Pepe Jeans London where she designed for their main high street collection and also contributed to their customised vintage clothing range which sold in their flagship stores in Spain and London.
Following her degree she went on to study Interior design for 7 years between two different practises where her passion for print, fabric, texture and colour became even more apparent.
Jan now lives in rural Herefordshire with her husband Tom and their and two young daughters. Working from her studio at their farm she creates bold and characterful print designs. Every design starts with pen to paper, all hand drawn and then either re-touched and put straight onto screen, or dissected and added to for repeat patterns.
The results are a range of print designs, some with an element of humour, a naïve charm, some which create interest for their 3D elements and curiosity for what is layered beneath, and others which are simply all about fabric and print, how the two combine, and how beautiful they look together.
“I absolutely love where printing is at this point in time, it’s most definitely enjoying something of a revival and I feel so lucky to be a part of that and create beautiful products for people to use and enjoy”
